I’ve been experimenting a lot of juniper in my recipes recently because I love the flavor and I’m on a Vikings binge. What I’ve found so far is that 1oz of juniper for a 3 gallon batch does not stand out in a high amount of hops.
If you’re looking to use it I’d say don’t go higher than 50 IBUs on the hop front and toss it in for the full 60 min boil. Of course I haven’t tried dry hopping anything yet but I hope to soon.
Also I prefer to use a mortar and pestle to get the crushing job done. Bought one on sale and have been using it for all kinds of great brewing and cooking creations.
